When visiting Edinburgh, keep the whole family entertained with an array of fantastic museums and galleries, all within 20 minutes’ walk from the Point Hotel.
Spend the morning exploring the vast collections of the National Museum of Scotland on Chambers Street. The museum features include the Natural World gallery, interactive exhibits and children’s galleries. Then head over to the Museum of Edinburgh to learn all about the history of the capital.
If literature is what you love then the Writer’s Museum within Lady Stair’s Close is for you, housing first editions, portraits and objects related to the lives and work of Scotland’s great literary figures. Across the Makar’s Court outside the museum you will find the Museum of The Mound, which has a million pound in cash on display, as well as Scotland’s oldest bank note and it walks you through the history of money through the ages.
To give yourself a rest from all the cultural exploring, take the time to enjoy Edinburgh’s many parks, gardens and riverside walks, and enjoy some lunch in the Princes Street Garden. After lunch take the opportunity to see inside the Scottish Parliament, and all its impressive architecture, with a free guided tour.
To finish off your day of history exploring head towards the Royal Mile, there you can experience the sights, sounds and smells of Edinburgh throughout the centuries at The People’s Story at Canongate, and make sure to stop by the Museum of Childhood, on the High Street, and discover treasure house full of toys from past and present.

Edinburgh is the perfect destination for a girls’ day out or weekend away. With all its museums and galleries, historic landmarks, fantastic bars and restaurants and vibrant nightlife, the city has something for everything and the Point Hotel provides the perfect central location to enjoy it all.
Start your day early and right with a delicious breakfast in the Bread Street Brasserie before heading out to enjoy the capital. Take an open roof bus tour or simply take a stroll through the streets, taking it all in and once you are finished with the compulsory cultural activities of your visit to Edinburgh, indulge in some retail therapy.
For a first class shopping experience Princes Street in the place to go, and it’s only 15 minutes away from the hotel, and while shopping you can be blown away by the magnificent views of Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street Gardens.
Edinburgh boasts a huge number of fantastic restaurants, including 5 Michelin star venues, as well as many great pubs and bars and so you will never be strapped for an excellent place for lunch with the girls.
After lunch, and with more energy, head over to George Street and Multrees Walk to continue the shopping extravaganza of Edinburgh.
When your day is finished return to the Point Hotel to enjoy dinner at our Bread Street Brasserie, and some drinks at one of the bars, where you will receive nothing but the best is service, food and drink and atmosphere.
